Using Bookoo Websites for Your PCS Move

So, you are moving. You need to get rid of a few things you don’t need to drag along. Maybe, you just moved and realize you can’t live without that blender you sold at your yard sale. Now what? I have found a wonderful group of websites that can help you solve some of the problems that go along with moving. Bookoo websites are there to help you with your dilemmas.

What is bookoo?

Bookoo is a network of websites that allow you to buy, sell or give away stuff.  Not only that, you can advertise when you are holding your yard sale, so you don’t have to list every single item for sale. You can find businesses or services that are local to the area. Heck, there is even a lost and found section for you to advertise that dog that showed up on your doorstep last night. You can post photos to go along with everything, as well. There are local sites in locations from Alaska to West Virginia. (Come on Wyoming…you need one too!) For all my friends stationed overseas, there are bookoos located in Germany, Japan, the UK and  now (thank goodness) Vicenza, Italy, my current home! If there is not one near you, you can even put in a request on the bookoo site.

Why use bookoo?

Here in Vicenza, there are a bunch of different ways to sell stuff. The catch is you have to join groups, or send it through some administrator who may or may not allow you to sell your stuff. If you sell stuff on some sites, it is chaos. No one can find the stuff you have for sale. You can’t really find the stuff you want. On other places, you put your stuff up for sale and…nada (cue the crickets chirping). The bookoo sites are real communities with a  bunch of people who want to buy and sell stuff. They are easy to use, just sign up for an account and post your things or start buying. The live chat option allows you to talk directly to the seller if they are online, so you might not even need to mess with email!

Wait, there’s an app for that…

If you are a smart phone user and love to do everything on your phone, you can easily use bookoo! You can download a bookoo app for both iPhones and Android phones. The best part of these is they are free!

Now, go check out the local bookoo and see if it will help you out!

Love your website Peggy, so many great resources & steps to the process that are so useful. For those new families that are reading may I suggest that prior to looking into getting a tourist visa (if they don’t have one already), I would suggest that all wives/partners apply for the official passport as soon as the orders are in as the official passport is priority at this point. If you have time after your official passport comes in and before pcsing then apply for a tourist passport and then you can list your APO address as your drop off point if you have time for return of your legal documents, otherwise you can apply for a personal passport when in Italy. For those that are not residents of the USA you will need to check out passport/visa requirements of your country.
